Huston Street, Angels have had steady talks regarding extension since December

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Huston Street hopes to be the closer for the Los Angeles Angels for years to come.

The right-hander, who serves as his own agent, has been engaged in steady contract extension talks with the team since December, he told Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times.

The Angels exercised their $7-million option on Street for the 2015 campaign this offseason, but he's set to become a free agent at season's end.

The 31-year-old is looking for a deal similar to those signed by relievers David Robertson (four years, $46 million) and Andrew Miller (four years, $36 million) this winter.

Street's performance is certainly on par with some of the best high-leverage arms in the game after recording 41 saves in 44 attempts for the San Diego Padres and Angels a year ago. His 1.37 ERA and 0.94 WHIP are equally impressive.
