Report: Red Sox sign Dana Eveland to minor-league contract

The Boston Red Sox added some pitching depth Wednesday.

The club has signed left-hander Dana Eveland to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training, reports Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.

Eveland will earn $900,000 if he cracks the big-league roster.

The 31-year-old hurler posted an impressive 2.63 ERA with 27 strikeouts in just over 27 innings pitched, only one year removed from Tommy John surgery.

The New York Mets cut let Eveland walk due to concerns over his elbow, and inability to pitch on back-to-back days.

The Red Sox have four other left-handed relievers on their 40-man roster - Craig Breslow, Edwin Escobar, Tommy Layne and Drake Britton.
