Rangers finalize 1-year deal with Kyuji Fujikawa
The Texas Rangers finalized a one-year, $1-million deal with veteran reliever Kyuji Fujikawa on Tuesday that also includes a club option for the 2016 campaign.
"He's a really good fit for our bullpen," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told MLB.com's Todd Wills. "He's a veteran. He's a strike-thrower. He has the ability to manipulate the ball."
Fujikawa spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, but has yet to replicate the success he enjoyed over 12 seasons in the Japanese Pacific League. The 34-year-old missed most of the 2014 season recovering from Tommy John surgery, though he still made 15 appearances for the Cubs, crafting a 4.85 ERA with a 26.6 percent strikeout rate.
"I'm very confident that I can continue to be as successful as I was in Japan," Fujikawa said. "As long as I'm healthy, I believe I can continue to be successful."
