Report: Reds not pursuing Jonny Gomes

Cincinnati Reds general manager Walt Jocketty remains eager to bolster his outfield after shipping Chris Heisey to the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this offseason, but free agent Jonny Gomes shouldn't expect a phone call any time soon.

Gomes, a 12-year veteran, is not among the outfielders the Reds are pursuing this winter, according to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish. Though the 34-year-old enjoyed two solid seasons with the Reds earlier in his career, Gomes' continued struggles against right-handed pitching have undermined his ability to play everyday.

Gomes split his 2014 campaign between the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics, hitting just .234/.327/.330 (87 OPS+) with six home runs over 112 contests. He did, however, managed a .743 OPS in 204 plate appearances against left-handed pitching, and has drawn interest this offseason from both the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs.
