Report: A's talking Justin Upton, Evan Gattis trade with Braves

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a few hours since Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane made a splash on the trade market

Hours after trading Josh Donaldson to the Toronto Blue Jays for Brett Lawrie and three prospects, the A's were reportedly talking trade with the Atlanta Braves about Justin Upton and Evan Gattis, according to Bay Area News Group's John Hickey

"Samardzija may be the bait," Hickey tweeted.

The A's have pitching to trade, according to multiple reports, and could deal Samardzija, whose name was in rumors before the Donaldson trade broke, or Scott Kazmir.

Upton's due slightly over $14.7 million in 2015, before he's set to hit free agency in 2016. He had a 133 wRC+ in 2014, and was worth 3.9 wins, according to FanGraphs

Gattis had a 125 wRC+ last season, and is yet to hit his arbitration years.
