With 20 wins in their past 25 games and the second-best record in baseball, you'd understand if the the Los Angeles Angels decide they're happy with the team they have and opt to stand pat at the trade deadline.

After pulling the trigger on a deal for Padres closer Huston Street, and in the process thinning out the top end of their farm system, that appears to be the Angels' plan.

Whether or not they change their minds between now and July 31 will depend on how confident the front office is in the current roster's ability to overtake the Oakland A's (the one team in the majors with a better record than the Angels) in the AL West.

Whichever one of those teams loses out on the division crown will almost certainly be one of the AL's two wild card teams, meaning the fate of one of their seasons will rest on the volatile whims of a one-game playoff.

You can bet the Angels front office will at least consider any option that might help them avoid that scenario.
