San Diego Padres closer Huston Street is on his way to Los Angeles as part of a six-player deal.

The Padres receive second baseman Taylor Lindsey, a first-round selection in 2010; shortstop Jose Rondon; and pitchers R.J. Alvarez and Elliot Morris.

Street, 30, boasts a 1.09 ERA and 0.76 WHIP while converting 24 of 25 save attempts. He's the latest star reliever to join the Angels, who have also added Jason Grilli from Pittsburgh and Joe Thatcher from Arizona in recent weeks.

Street goes from a Padres team that is already effectively out of the NL pennant race, and well on its way to a fourth straight losing season, to an Angels team that boasts the second-best record in baseball.

Street was forgiving towards management in San Diego, but made no excuses for his teammates.

"Losing is a miserable experience," he said. "I believe in the Padres' ownership. They want to win and they are not content with status quo.

"I blame the players for what's happened here."

''Huston's 30 years old, and arguably having his best season as a major leaguer,'' said Angels GM Jerry Dipoto. ''He's been one of the more consistent closers in baseball over time and one of the highest percentage conversion guys in the league for a number of years. I feel really strong about his character and what he brings to the clubhouse. It really deepens the back end of our bullpen and it gives us the opportunity to make games shorter.''

Joaquin Benoit is expected to assume the closer role in San Diego.
