Report: Rangers expected to make new extension offer to Odor

The Texas Rangers' interest in extending Rougned Odor appears to be serious, as the club is reportedly planning on making a new contract offer to the second baseman in hopes of keeping him around long term.

Texas plans to revise the offer they initially made to the 23-year-old as negotiations between the two sides continue throughout spring, reports Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.

The Rangers, who've been in discussions with Odor for about a year, made him an offer lower than the six-year, $52.5-million contract Jason Kipnis of the Cleveland Indians signed in 2014, according to Heyman.

Odor, who's six years younger than Kipnis, and would be four years younger than Kipnis was when he signed his deal, posted a career-high 33 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, but also posted a career-low .296 on-base percentage.

Career stats

PLAYER PA HR RBI OPS WAR
Rougned Odor 1519 58 197 .766 4.9
Jason Kipnis 3364 76 354 .768 19.1

Odor isn't eligible for arbitration until 2018, earning just $522,700 last season.

He's under team control until 2021, when he's eligible to become a free agent for the first time.
