Fernandez's family intends to name daughter sole beneficiary to estate
The family of Jose Fernandez intends to name the late baseball star's newborn daughter Penelope as the sole beneficiary to his estate with a filing in court within the next two weeks, family attorney Ralph Fernandez told ESPN's Katie Strang on Monday.
The family's lawyer also revealed they intend to name the late pitcher's mother Maritza as Penelope's personal representative.
"This has been great for everyone," Fernandez told Strang regarding her birth Friday. "This is the only bit of good news in the past five months since the tragedy."
According to Strang, Fernandez's estate is currently worth an estimated $2 million to $3 million, though that number will be specifically defined soon due to wrongful death lawsuits filed by the families of the two men also killed in the boat crash that took the Miami Marlins pitcher's life in September.
