The parents of two men who were killed with Jose Fernandez on his boat on Sept. 25 in Miami have filed separate $2-million lawsuits on his estate, according to Alex Harris of The Miami Herald.

It has yet to be confirmed who was driving the boat at the time of the crash, but a medical exam revealed Fernandez was legally drunk and had cocaine in his system. Eduardo Rivero and Emilio Jesus Macias were found to have lower blood alcohol levels, although it was determined Rivero had cocaine in his system, as well.

Both families are filing negligence and personal injury lawsuits. Rivero and Macias' joint attorney Christopher Royer confirmed Rivero's family claim was filed on Friday while Macias' is expected to be put through on Monday, per the Sentinel.

"The Rivero and Macias families are deeply scarred by the loss of their sons," Royer said Friday. "We remain open to a settlement and are hopeful a prompt resolution can be achieved to spare these families, and that of (Jose) Fernandez too, from any additional suffering."

Additionally, the former All-Star pitcher's lawyer, Ralph Fernandez, has maintained the defense that Jose was not the one driving the boat. He claims that a witness was on the phone with the 24-year-old moments before the crash with him heard yelling to the assumed driver, "Go left, go left" before the phone call ended.

The former Marlins star's estate is reportedly valued at $2 million to $3 million. On Jan. 27, Fernandez's mother, Maritza Gomez, filed a petition to take control of her son's property.
