Red Sox hold team meeting ahead of elimination game

There's no shortage of frustration coming from the Boston Red Sox clubhouse after the team traveled back to Fenway Park facing an 0-2 series deficit.

After suffering an embarrassing 6-0 loss in Game 2 on Friday to the Cleveland Indians, David Ortiz said the team was getting "our asses beat," while Dustin Pedroia said the team had "lost who we are."

The Red Sox don't have much time to correct things, as Game 3 goes Sunday and another loss means their season - and Ortiz's career - is over. In order to help try and re-energize the club, there was a team meeting held Sunday.

"I think what was discussed a little bit ago was just don't forget about who we are," manager John Farrell told reporters. "Don't forget who you are individually and certainly, what we've been as a team. That is where there is a lot of recent history that gives us confidence going into tomorrow."

The Red Sox finished the regular season with 93 wins, featured the best offense in the majors and boasted an 11-game winning streak in September. They've been outscored 11-4 in the first two games of the series, however, and are hitting .200/.257/.415 with 22 strikeouts.

Boston's Game 3 starter Clay Buchholz, who has been a part of two World Series-winning Red Sox teams, said much of the meeting was to remind themselves how good they are, and can be.

"It was basically a meeting to tell everybody in the clubhouse - the young guys, the veterans that it isn't about the last two games," Buchholz said. "Forget about them. Not to worry 24-to-48 hours ago. That isn't going to help you moving forward. That was probably the biggest message. Go out and be ourselves.

"We're the Boston Red Sox. We know what baseball is about. Our front office and ownership have put a really good team on the field. Up until this point we've been a really good baseball team. We won the best division in baseball this year as well. I think that was probably the biggest point, to not forget who we are and play the game."
