Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz took down a legend Thursday with career home run No. 537, passing New York Yankees great Mickey Mantle on the all-time list.

Pending an extreme scenario over the remaining 16 games, Ortiz is likely to finish his career ranked 17th all time. Mike Schmidt is next on the list, though he sits at 548 home runs.

The blast off Yankees reliever Adam Warren traveled an estimated 442 feet, tied for his longest homer of the season. It was Ortiz's 34th of the season, which also tied Darrell Evans for the most homers for a player aged 40 or over.
