Cespedes letting 'bat do the talking' after grand slam

Bill Streicher / USA TODAY Sports

A grand slam certainly makes a statement.

After hitting his 30th home run of the year and recording five RBIs, New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes declined to speak with reporters following the team's 10-3 win over the Atlanta Braves. On his behalf, a spokesperson said: "He's going to let his bat do the talking today."

Reminiscent of last year's torrid stretch in August, Cespedes has been on fire since returning from the disabled list on Aug. 19, hitting a combined .311/.366/.635 with eight home runs and 22 RBIs. The Mets are 16-6 during that stretch, winners in seven of their past eight games and now occupy the National League's second wild-card spot.

"He wants to win, I will tell you that," Mets manager Terry Collins said after the game. "This guy wants to win. He's laying it on the line. If he's going to get hot, he's getting hot at the right time. This is a big stretch for us."
