Beltran enjoying Texas: 'It's more about baseball' than N.Y.

It's been nearly three weeks since the Texas Rangers acquired Carlos Beltran from the New York Yankees for a package of prospects, and so far things are going swimmingly for the 39-year-old, who's been raking to a .315/.351/.500 clip since his arrival.

Beltran credited the relaxing environment of playing under Jeff Banister in Texas for some of his results, while also explaining he doesn't miss the hustle and bustle of New York City.

"Playing in Texas ... it's relaxing, man," Beltran explained Thursday on The Afternoon Show with Cowlishaw and Mosley, according to SportsDayDFW. "Being here, for me, I feel so weird because playing in New York, you know, every day I feel like I talk to the media before the games, after the games, and there were like 30-40 guys in the clubhouse every single day. And here, there's maybe four or five, and sometimes they don't even want to talk to you."

Beltran spent 2 1/2 seasons with the Yankees before arriving in the Lone Star State. Although his numbers weren't of the same caliber as his previous two seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, he still produced effectively for the Bronx Bombers.

But, while his numbers didn't suffer much with the Yankees, the veteran didn't feel as comfortable in New York and doesn't miss the Big Apple's distractions.

"For me it's kind of weird, but they're two different markets - even though this team is a big-market team," Beltran said. "But at the end of the day, (in) New York there's a lot of distractions, a lot of things going on more than baseball. Here it's more about baseball. Banister is more laid back. I think Joe Girardi has a lot of things going on in New York."

Since acquiring Beltran, Jonathan Lucroy, and Jeremy Jeffress on Aug. 1, the Rangers are 10-6 and hold a 6 1/2-game lead over the Seattle Mariners for top spot in the American League West.
