Ortiz feeds Hanley's obsession of cheesecake

Hanley Ramirez's biggest mistake was telling David Ortiz he liked cheesecake.

"You don't like it," Ortiz said in a Players' Tribune post. "You love it, bro."

When the team was on the road, the Boston Red Sox duo went out to dinner and Ramirez asked for cheesecake as his dessert. The next night, they went out again, and again, he asked for cheesecake, to Ortiz's shock.

"He don't want me to eat it," Ramirez said. "He tried to block my cheesecake. He's trying to keep me in shape so I can play as long as him, I guess. I don't know."

But when the club got back to Boston, Ortiz had a grin on his face as he had a present for Ramirez. Inside a big box was a cheesecake.

Although it was intended a joke, Ortiz made sure to have it made and ready for pickup, and Ramirez took the move to heart.

"You see this guy hitting 40 homers, batting .300, coming through in the clutch so many times, but he still stops at Cheesecake Factory for me. Just to do it. Just because I like it so much," he said. "Man, this guy is like a father figure to me."

It's unclear how many cheesecakes Ramirez has ingested this year, but he's having one of his better offensive showings in recent years, so maybe it's working.
