Rangers unfazed after Bautista accuses Odor of 'looking for a fight'

Jose Bautista, the Toronto Blue Jays star on the receiving end of the now-infamous Rougned Odor right hook from a couple weeks ago, believes the Texas Rangers' pugnacious second baseman was "looking for a fight" that day.

Nobody in the Rangers' clubhouse really cares what Bautista has to say, though, according to Adrian Beltre, the veteran third baseman who played the role of referee during the epic brawl in Arlington on May 15.

"He can say whatever he wants," Beltre told Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. "I don't think there would have been a fight if he hadn't slid the way he did. But it's in the past. I don't have anything else on that. It happened and we move on."

Speaking with Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci for an upcoming profile, Bautista also accused the 22-year-old of trying to hit him with his relay throw to first base on the contentious, brawl-sparking double play that came moments after Bautista was plunked by Rangers reliever Matt Bush.

"I've been playing baseball for a long time," Bautista said. "I know exactly what he was trying to do when he threw the ball. He tried a hundred percent to hit me in the face. And it's not the first time he's done it against me or some of my teammates. And there's video to prove that."

Rangers manager Jeff Banister wasn't buying it.

"Fielders are taught to throw the ball from where they receive it," Banister said. "That's what Odor did. The throw wasn't at him; it was as yanked. As for the comments in general, I'm most proud of our guys for showing professionalism and integrity. We're serving our suspension. We've moved forward. At some point, we move on."
