Newly fired Schilling feuds with McCarthy on Twitter
Curt Schilling has received plenty of scorn for the anti-trans meme he shared on Facebook earlier this week - the post that got him fired from ESPN - but Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Brandon McCarthy is one of few detractors to engage thoughtfully with the former All-Star.
In response to Schilling's post in support of the controversial bathroom law recently passed in North Carolina - which forces individuals to use multi-occupancy bathrooms based on their "biological" sex - McCarthy noted on Twitter that the new law does nothing to eliminate the supposed risks of a public restroom and merely discriminates against transgender individuals.
A contentious exchange between the two pitchers ensued early Friday morning:
@gehrig38 what is stopping any pervert from already going into a bathroom not designated for them and doing what they want? Nothing.

@BMcCarthy32 Oh sorry. Just assumed scum like that would take advantage of laws that gave them easier access to women and children.

@gehrig38 scum? Curt we're talking about human beings with emotions and a desire to be accepted in normal society. Lumping them in w/

@gehrig38 molesters and abusers is offensive to not only them but to a reasonable argument.

@BMcCarthy32 When point did it flip? When did the USA have to reform itself for people instead of people learning to deal with the country?
— Curt Schilling (@gehrig38) April 22, 2016
@gehrig38 life goes on Curt. It evolves. Black/white, gay/straight/ transgender, male/female whatever. It's just people.
— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) April 22, 2016
@BMcCarthy32 That's the stopping point? Life goes on? No stamina for the debate? No wonder you only had 9 CG's!!! :) Gotcha!!
— Curt Schilling (@gehrig38) April 22, 2016
@gehrig38 see what the fuck does this have to do with baseball? Bringing it up is classless and further erodes your credibility.
— Brandon McCarthy (@BMcCarthy32) April 22, 2016
@BMcCarthy32 Dude I'm kidding, like enormously kidding. Didn't get the :) Gotcha????

A few hours after the exchange reached an impasse, Schilling went on SiriusXM's Breitbart News Daily to offer his views on why ESPN decided to let him go.
"I'll always love talking pitching," he said. "I think I know it; I thought I was good at it. But at a company where the rules are different based completely and solely on your perspective and your beliefs, it didn't work."
