The Toronto Blue Jays are playing in the ALCS for the second straight season (lost to the Kansas City Royals 4-2 last season) and for their seventh time in franchise history. The only other time they played in consecutive ALCS's was from 1991 to 1993 when they did it in three straight seasons (won back-to-back World Series in 1992 and 1993).

The Cleveland Indians are playing in the ALCS for the first time since 2007, when they lost to the Boston Red Sox in seven games, and will be playing in their fifth ALCS in franchise history. The Indians advanced to this year's ALCS by sweeping the Boston Red Sox, which was the first time they swept the ALDS since 1995, when they also swept the Red Sox.

In Game 1 of the ALDS against the Texas Rangers, Marco Estrada got the win, going 8.1 innings with six strikeouts and allowing four hits and one run. Estrada was the first Toronto pitcher to go at least eight innings and give up one or fewer runs in a postseason game since David Cone did so in Game 2 of the 1992 ALCS against the Oakland A's (8.0 IP, 1 run). In four career postseason starts, Estrada is 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA and a .182 opponent batting average.

In Game 2 of the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox, Corey Kluber got the win, pitching seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and allowing just three hits. Kluber was the first Cleveland pitcher to go at least seven innings and allow no runs in a postseason game since Bartolo Colon did so in Game 1 of the 2001 ALDS against the Seattle Mariners (8.0 IP, 0 runs). In five career regular season starts against the Blue Jays, Kluber is 1-3 with a 5.34 ERA and a .291 opponent batting average.

So far in this year's postseason, Josh Donaldson is batting .500 (9-for-18) with five doubles and three RBI. In five regular season games against the Indians this season, Donaldson batted .381 (8-for-21) with two home runs and five RBI. Since last postseason, Donaldson has 19 hits, fourth most by any player during this time.

In the ALDS against Boston, Jose Ramirez batted .500 (5-for-10) with a double and four runs. In seven regular season games against the Blue Jays this season, Ramirez had a hit in every game and batted .313 (10-for-32) with two home runs and six RBI. During the regular season, Jose Ramirez batted .347 at home, third best in MLB (min. 1.55 PA/team game).

CLEVELAND -- The last two teams standing in the American League overcame plenty of obstacles to reach the AL Championship Series, but the Toronto Blue Jays and Cleveland Indians are both playing as well now as they have all season.
