The A's lost, 8-6, to the Angels in Anaheim last night, getting swept three straight by the Halos, and dropping to 1-8 in their last nine games overall. Oakland has been swept 14 times in 2+ game series this year -- second most in the majors (Twins -- 16).

Seattle trounced Houston, 12-4, yesterday at Minute Maid Park, taking two of three from the Astros, and improving to 14-6 in its last 20 games -- second best in MLB since September 7 (Boston -- 15-5). The M's have scored 10+ runs five times this month (tied for most in the majors).

The Mariners have beaten the A's five straight times, and have won 10 of 15 meetings with Oakland overall this year. Dating to the beginning of 2014, these clubs have split 24 games at Safeco Field, each scoring exactly 90 runs in those contests.

Kendall Graveman went 7.0 innings and allowed three runs (all earned) six days ago against Texas, taking the loss, and dropping to 0-3 with a 5.28 ERA in his last five starts. Graveman has started four games vs. the M's this year, going 0-3 with a 7.48 ERA in those contests.

Ariel Miranda allowed three runs (all earned) in just 4.0 IP last Saturday against the Twins, losing the game, and snapping his personal four-game win streak in the process. Miranda is 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in his last three starts at Safeco Field.

Robinson Cano went deep yesterday, giving him three homers in his last three games, and a career-high 36 on the season. Since joining the Mariners in 2014, Cano is batting .347 with six home runs and 21 RBI vs. the A's at Safeco Field.

SEATTLE -- The dimming postseason hopes of the Seattle Mariners gained a spark of light Friday night, and they'll get at least one more chance to play a meaningful game.
The Mariners (86-74) host Oakland in another must-win game Saturday night, trailing second-place Toronto by one game in the American League wild-card race and the Detroit Tigers by a half-game. Baltimore is two games ahead of Seattle, although the Mariners could force a tie with them with two wins and two Baltimore losses.

SEATTLE (AP)  Manager Scott Servais was not prepared to give the season-ending speech to his team. He expected the Seattle Mariners season to matter for at least a few more days - and possibly well into October.
After 10 wild innings that personified their season, the Mariners playoff hopes ended on Saturday night, extending baseball's longest postseason drought to 15 years with a 9-8 loss to the Oakland Athletics.
