The Reds return to Anaheim to face the Angels for the first time since the 2002 season. Cincinnati is 5-12 (.294) in interleague games this season, tied for worst record in MLB with the Diamondbacks and Padres. The Angels are 6-11 (.353) in interleague games, second worst in the AL (Athletics -- 7-13, .350).

The Reds lost two out of three in Arizona, losing the rubber game yesterday, 11-2. Cincinnati allowed four first-inning runs yesterday, bringing their season total of runs allowed in the first inning to 93, most in MLB.

The Angels won two out of three in Detroit, winning the rubber game yesterday, 5-0. The shutout was the Angels' sixth since the All-Star break, tied for most in MLB over that span with the Cincinnati Reds.

On Friday, Albert Pujols hit his 25th home run of the season. He now has 15 seasons with at least 25 homers, tying him for third all-time with Reggie Jackson, Frank Robinson, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds, while trailing only Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds, who each had 18 seasons with at least 25 home runs.

Matt Shoemaker has never faced the Reds in his career, but has a 3-3 record with a 3.02 ERA in seven career starts against National League opposition. Entering this season, he had a 1.93 ERA (7/32.2) in interleague games, but in two starts this year he has a 7.00 ERA (7/9.0).

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Two years ago, Brandon Finnegan introduced himself to major-league baseball as a reliever during the Kansas City Royals' run to the World Series. On Wednesday, Finnegan will seek to build on his recent success as a starter when his Cincinnati Reds face the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium.
Opposing him will be right-hander Ricky Nolasco, who has yet to win a game since the Minnesota Twins sent him to the Angels at the trading deadline.
