The Yankees failed to sweep the Astros with a 4-1 loss on Wednesday. They now continue on the road, where they are just 23-27 on the year.

Tampa Bay stopped a four-game losing skid with a 3-1 victory over the Dodgers on Wednesday. Following a nine-game road trip on which they went 4-5, the Rays now return home where they are 19-30 on the year, worst in the American League.

These division rivals are meeting for their third series this season, and the Yankees hold a 4-2 advantage on the year. Rays starters have been especially sharp against the Yankees this season though, with a 2.68 ERA versus them compared to a 4.31 ERA against all other teams.

Ivan Nova did not receive a decision last Saturday, allowing just one run on six hits over 7.0 innings against the Giants. Nova has not lost in his past five starts, averaging 8.79 K/9 and a 3.45 ERA in that span.

Jake Odorizzi did not allow a run over 8.0 innings last Friday in Oakland, but did not receive a decision for the 12th time this season, most in MLB. It was Odorizzi's first time not allowing a run since May 24 against the Marlins and first time throwing more than seven innings since April 13, 2015 when he went eight innings against the Blue Jays.

Tim Beckham singled against the Dodgers on Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to five games. Over the streak, Beckham is batting .526 with a 1.392 OPS, best and third-best in MLB since July 18, respectively (minimum 15 PA).

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Rays took themselves out of playoff contention with a terrible summer stretch that saw them lose 24 of 27 games. Without much on the line, they've gotten off the mat nicely, winning seven of 12 since, due largely in part to consistent starting pitching that was lacking.
On Saturday, left-hander Drew Smyly won for the first time in 12 starts, holding the Yankees to two runs and four hits in six solid innings.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP)  The New York Yankees' second consecutive loss to Tampa Bay could push them to deal more veterans as the trade deadline pushes.
Drew Smyly struck out Alex Rodriguez three times en route to stopping an 11-start winless streak, and the Rays sent the Yankees to their third straight loss, 6-3 Saturday night.
