The Cubs have outscored the Reds, 60-20, while taking six of the first seven meetings of 2016. Chicago is now 19-7 (.731) in the series since the beginning of last season, quite a contrast from the Cubs' 28-60 (.318) record versus Cincinnati between 2010 and 2014.

After dropping three of four games at Miami, the Cubs have fallen to 1-6 over the past week. Chicago's team ERA now sits at a season-high 2.83, though it's still easily the lowest mark in MLB. The Mets are second best at 3.20.

The Reds snapped a four-game losing streak by salvaging the finale of their four-game series with San Diego. Cincinnati blanked the Padres on Sunday, 3-0, becoming the last National League team to record a shutout this season.

In five starts at night this season, Jake Arrieta is 4-0 while surrendering just one run over 37 innings (0.24 ERA) and 10 hits in 117 opponent at-bats (.085 batting average). All 10 hits have been singles (.085 slugging percentage).

Dan Straily is allowing a .176 batting average at home, the third-lowest mark in the National League (minimum 1.54 batters faced per team game). Straily's ERA at home this season (2.60) is roughly half his rate in road games (5.22).

Jay Bruce clubbed his 17th home run of the season Sunday. The blast represented his 40th extra-base hit, which is tied for the third-highest total in the National League. Bruce also ranks second in the NL with 58 RBI.

CINCINNATI (AP)  Anthony Rizzo saw the ball ricochet across the outfield and kicked his legs into high gear, deciding he was going to try to touch `em all. His sides were aching by the time he slid safely into home plate.
Rizzo legged out his first inside-the-park homer on Wednesday - a fitting final touch to a series full of unusual moments - and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-2 for a three-game sweep that put them back on solid footing after a rough stretch.
