Since moving into Nationals Park in 2008, Washington is just a game over .500 (38-37) when facing the Mets there, compared to 47-31 versus the Mets in New York. The two clubs have split six games overall this season, with each going 2-1 at the other's home park.

The Mets haven't mustered more than eight hits in any of their past nine games, during which time they've batted .197 as a team. They've been limited to no more than two runs on 29 occasions in 2016, the third-highest total by any offense.

The Nationals ended a seven-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory at Milwaukee on Sunday. It was just the fourth time since moving to Washington in 2005 that the Nationals won despite collecting at least seven fewer hits than their opponent (four hits for Washington versus 11 by the Brewers on Sunday).

Noah Syndergaard makes his first start since feeling elbow discomfort last Wednesday. While Syndergaard ranks second in the majors this season with 9.17 strikeouts per walk allowed (minimum 1.0 IP per team game), his rate is 18.33 (55 strikeouts, three walks) over eight appearances (seven starts) since May 17.

After posting a 0.79 ERA in April and a 3.32 ERA in May, Joe Ross' mark is over five (5.01) in June. Nevertheless, Ross boasts a record of 3-0 over six starts since May 26. He also hasn't allowed more than one home run in any of 14 outings this season.

Former Met Daniel Murphy has hit in all six games against his former teammates this season, including multi-hit performances in each of the last four meetings. Murphy enters this series leading the majors in batting average with a mark of .349 (minimum 3.1 PA per team game).
