The Padres have won six of the last eight games in this series, including four of the last five played in San Diego. The Mets haven't won a series in San Diego since taking two of three in August 2011.

The Padres have allowed 10 combined runs over their last six games (1.7 per game), but fell 2-0 to the Rockies yesterday. It was their eighth time being shut out this season, twice as many as the next-closest team (Royals, four).

After being one-hit by the Braves in a 3-0 loss on Tuesday, the Mets rebounded with an 8-0 shutout win of their own yesterday versus Atlanta. New York's 17-9 record is its best through 26 games since also being 17-9 in 2006.

Lucas Duda hit a pair of home runs yesterday, his eighth multi-homer game since the start of last season. That's tied with Chris Davis for the most in the majors since 2015. Duda has 14 multi-homer games in his career.

Jacob deGrom's only career start versus the Padres came last June 1 in San Diego, when he pitched 8.0 scoreless innings and allowed two hits in a 7-0 win (8 K, 0 BB). deGrom has won all three of his starts to open the 2016 season.

Matt Kemp has hit safely in seven straight games, going 10-for-27 (.370) with three home runs and nine RBI over that span. For the season Kemp (8) and Wil Myers (5) have accounted for 13 of the Padres' 21 home runs.

SAN DIEGO (AP)  The shift helped keep Colin Rea's no-hit bid going into the seventh inning, and then a shift cost the right-hander a chance at the San Diego Padres' ever-elusive gem.
Rea lost his no-hit bid with two outs in the seventh inning when Yoenis Cespedes singled the other way against a shift, and finished with eight-plus innings of three-hit ball as the Padres beat the New York Mets 5-3 Thursday night.
