The Padres took two of three games from the Rockies at Colorado in early April, improving to 14-8 in the series since the beginning of 2015. And since 2014, the Padres boast a 14-5 record when facing the Rockies at San Diego.

Colorado produced its first series sweep of 2016 when the Rockies took three games at Arizona this weekend. The Rockies climbed back to .500 overall (12-12) and now share first place in the NL West with the Dodgers and Giants. Colorado improved to 8-0 when allowing no more than three runs, as opposed to 4-12 otherwise.

By losing their finale against the Dodgers in Los Angeles this weekend, the Padres fell to 0-8 in series closers in 2016, compared to 9-8 otherwise. San Diego's 1-0 defeat on Sunday represented the seventh time it has been shut out this season. No other club has been blanked more than three times (Kansas City and Minnesota).

Over his last five games, Nolan Arenado is batting .455 with four home runs and eight RBI. His 11 home runs this season edges teammate Trevor Story (10) for the most in the majors, while Arenado also has assumed the MLB lead with 25 RBI.

Carlos Gonzalez's batting average is back up to .337 after going 5-for-8 over his last two games. They were his 10th and 11th multi-hit games of 2016. Only Starling Marte, with 12, has produced more among National Leaguers.

A year after winning his first seven decisions for the Padres, James Shields has opened 0-4 in 2016. But he's been supported by just 1.36 runs per nine innings, the second-lowest rate in the majors (minimum 1.0 IP per team game).

After showing plenty of promise before having Tommy John surgery, Tyler Chatwood has quickly recaptured that form in his return to the Colorado Rockies.
While the Rockies hope to end their offensive woes at Petco Park, the right-hander will try to continue staking his claim as the club's much-needed ace Wednesday when it looks to salvage a win in its three-game series with the San Diego Padres.

SAN DIEGO (AP)  Tyler Chatwood's long road back from Tommy John surgery seemed a little shorter on Wednesday.
Making his sixth big league start since his second elbow ligament operation, Chatwood pitched three-hit ball for eight innings to lead the Colorado Rockies over San Diego 2-0 Wednesday. The Padres were shut out for the eighth time in 28 games this season.
