The Cubs won Game 2, 6-3, to even the series at one game apiece. Chicago is just 1-6 in series tied 1-1 all-time, with the only win coming in the 2003 Divisional Series against Florida (3-2). Meanwhile, St. Louis is 18-8 all-time in series tied 1-1.

The Cardinals homered three times in Saturday's loss. St. Louis only lost two regular season games when hitting three or more home runs, and it was the Cardinals first such loss in the postseason since the 2006 NLCS against the Mets -- Game 4, three homers.

In his first career postseason start, Jorge Soler doubled and homered playing right field. Through three games, Cubs right fielders are 6-for-9 with two home runs and five RBI. All other right fielders in the postseason have combined for just three home runs and eight RBI total.

Kolten Wong and Randal Grichuk became the second pair of Cardinals teammates to hit back-to-back home runs in the playoffs (also: Albert Pujols and Scott Rolen in Game 2 of the 2004 NLCS against Houston). Wong now has four career postseason home runs while playing second base -- only four NL players have more career postseason home runs as a second baseman -- Chase Utley (10), Jeff Kent (nine), Davey Lopes (six) and Joe Morgan (five).

Jake Arrieta has not allowed a run in his last 31 innings pitched dating back to his start September 22. He was the first pitcher to throw a complete-game shutout in his postseason debut since Tim Lincecum in 2010 (NLDS Game 1 vs. Atlanta) and second to do so for the Cubs all-time -- Claude Passeau in 1945 (World Series Game 3 at Detroit).

Michael Wacha posted a 7.88 ERA in September -- including two losses to the Cubs. It was the worst ERA during any calendar month of his career, and only one NL pitcher with at least four games started had a higher ERA since the beginning of September -- Alec Asher for Philadelphia (10.03).

The bearded ace of the Chicago Cubs was one cool customer heading into Game 3 of the deadlocked NL Division Series on Monday night. He also was the biggest challenge for the St. Louis Cardinals, who insist they will be ready for the first playoff game at Wrigley Field in seven years.
