American League Game Summary - Cleveland at Seattle

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - Taijuan Walker fired eight shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners defeated the Cleveland Indians 2-1 in the second of a four-game set on Friday night.

Walker (2-5) struck out eight and scattered just two hits. Seth Smith smacked a two-run homer for the Mariners, who have won six of their last eight games.

"The defense was unbelievable," Walker said. "I felt really good."

Trevor Bauer (4-2) punched out 10, but surrendered two runs on six hits and three walks for Cleveland, which had won eight of its last 10 games coming in.

"I thought I threw the ball really well ... they hit one ball hard," Bauer said.

The Mariners ended the scoreless deadlock with a two-run sixth.

Nelson Cruz hit a one-out single and Smith launched a towering shot into the seats in right-center for his two-run blast.

In the ninth, Fernando Rodney allowed a two-out walk to Jason Kipnis and Ryan Raburn's triple deflected off Cruz's glove in right, allowing Kipnis to score. Rodney then got Michael Brantley to fly out to right, notching his 14th save of the season.

Seattle had the best chance to score prior to the Smith homer. It loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but Cleveland shortstop Jose Ramirez made a slick over-the-shoulder grab on a Brad Miller pop up into shallow left- center.
