The Nationals and Reds split six meetings last season, alternating wins and losses over all six games (this is their first meeting of 2015). The Reds averaged just 2.3 runs per game in those contests, to the Nationals' 3.5; each team hit only one home run over the six games.

Cincinnati snapped a nine-game losing streak Tuesday versus the Rockies, but lost the series finale Wednesday (6-4). The Reds' 8-16 (.333) record in May would be the club's worst in a month since going 8-19 (.296) in July 2009.

Washington took two out of three games with the Cubs in Chicago mid-week, the Nationals' ninth straight series win going back to late April. The team's 21-6 (.778) record since April 28 is the best in the majors.

Bryce Harper has homered in back-to-back games to give him 18 for the season, tied with Seattle's Nelson Cruz for the MLB lead. It's the most home runs through the team's first 47 games in franchise history (including Expos).

Stephen Strasburg is 1-1 with a 5.50 ERA in three career starts against the Reds, his highest ERA against any NL opponent. He has pitched six complete innings just twice in nine starts this season, averaging 4.9 innings per outing.

Jay Bruce has reached base safely in 10 straight games, hitting .421 (16/38) over that span with two homers and four RBI. He's raised his batting average from .162 (through May 14) to the current .226.
