MLB Game Summary - San Diego at Cleveland, Game Two

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Everth Cabrera went 2-for-4 and scored both San Diego runs as the Padres beat the Cleveland Indians, 2-1, to split Wednesday's doubleheader and avoid a sweep of the three-game set.

Cleveland took Game 1 of the interleague doubleheader, 2-0, behind 7 2/3 scoreless innings from Zach McAllister.

Seth Smith and Chase Headley earned an RBI apiece for the Padres, while Chris Denorfia picked up the Padres' lone extra-base hit with a double.

Padres starter Robbie Erlin (1-0) struck out six, allowing one run on six hits through six frames of work, and Huston Street picked up his third save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Mike Aviles drove in the Indians' lone run and Asdrubal Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a double for the only extra-base hit for Cleveland.

Trevor Bauer (0-1) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on four hits through six innings, fanning eight. Bauer was called up from Triple-A Columbus to make the spot start due to Monday's rainout.

"I thought he was really good," Indians manager Terry Francona said of Bauer. "With his stuff and the way he's trying to attack the zone, his progress is going to come quick."

With the game tied at 1-1, San Diego struck in the top of the sixth to score the decisive run. Everth Cabrera led off with a single before Smith was hit by a pitch and Yonder Alonso walked to load the bases. Headley then singled to left, but only Cabrera was able to score on the one-out hit.

"It was great for it to fall in," Headley said of his run-scoring base hit. "We needed it as a team. I needed it personally."

The teams went scoreless through the final 3 1/2 frames. Street was able to shut the door in the ninth, despite the Indians getting men on first and second with one out.

Earlier, San Diego wasted no time getting on the board after being blanked in Game 1 of the doubleheader. Everth Cabrera led the game off with a grounder to short that became a throwing error which allowed him to advance to second. A double to right field by Denorfia moved him to third before Smith grounded out to plate Cabrera and gave the Padres a 1-0 lead.

Cleveland knotted the game in the bottom of the third. Yan Gomes led off with a single before Asdrubal Cabrera lined a single to right which sent Gomes to third. Aviles followed up with a sacrifice fly to center to drive in Gomes for the Indians' lone run.
