(Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays can continue a remarkable run of dominance against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night when the two teams meet in the second of three games of a midweek series at Target Field.
Toronto has won 21 of its last 26 games against the Twins and 18 of the last 22 played in Minnesota.
The momentum continued Tuesday, when Jose Bautista went 3-for-5 and drove in one of the five runs the Blue Jays scored in the sixth inning, and Brett Lawrie tacked on a late grand slam for good measure as Toronto rallied big for a 9-3 victory.
Edwin Encarnacion knocked in Bautista and later scored in the deciding sixth, and the bullpen did the rest behind Brandon Morrow, who labored through 3 2/3 innings but only allowed two runs on four hits and four walks.
Toronto has scored 20 runs and rapped out 31 hits in its last two games.
The offense will be supporting knuckleballer R.A. Dickey in game two.
The former National League Cy Young Award winner has been searching for his form through three starts in 2014, including a Thursday outing in which he was touched for five runs on six hits in seven innings of a 6-4 loss.
He's split a pair of decisions in Minnesota while posting a 7.30 earned run average in four appearances.
The Twins reply with lefty Mike Pelfrey, who's winless in his last six starts.
Dickey's former teammate with the New York Mets gave up six runs and nine hits in five innings of his most recent outing, a 6-1 loss to Oakland.
He's lost five straight decisions in those six starts, including a loss to the Blue Jays that got the streak started last September.
Pelfrey split two decisions and had a 3.75 ERA against Toronto in 2013.
On Tuesday, Aaron Loup (1-0), Neil Wagner, Brett Cecil, Steve Delabar and Sergio Santos combined for 5 1/3 innings of three-hit, one-run ball to secure the Blue Jays' fifth win in seven games.
Trevor Plouffe belted a solo homer while Chris Colabello recorded three of Minnesota's seven hits and knocked in a run for the Twins, who were coming off a three-game sweep of the Royals.
The Twins' early lead evaporated when Phil Hughes (0-1) imploded in the sixth. Minnesota's starter survived a leadoff hit each of the first three innings and retired six in a row after giving up a double and a walk to open the fourth. His luck, however, ran out in the sixth, which started with Munenori Kawasaki slapping a double down the third-base line.
Bautista followed with a run-scoring single, and Encarnacion chased Hughes two batters later with an RBI base hit to center. Michael Tonkin was unable to keep it a 2-2 game, as Dioner Navarro singled to load the bases for Moises Sierra, who pushed the go-ahead run across with a soft groundout to first. Lawrie brought in Encarnacion with a sacrifice fly that Kurt Suzuki compounded with a throwing error that allowed another run to score.
Hughes was charged with four runs on eight hits in five-plus innings of work.
Toronto was 5-1 against the Twins last season.
