Vardy equals Van Nistelrooy's record with goal in 10th straight Premier League match
Ruud van Nistelrooy has some company at the top of the mountain.
Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, whose rise from relative obscurity to England international has been meteoric this season, scored in his 10th consecutive Premier League match on Saturday, equalling the league record set in 2003 when the aforementioned Dutchman was leading the line and scoring at will for Manchester United.

Vardy, who leads the Premier League with 13 goals on the campaign, etched his name alongside that of Van Nistelrooy in first-half injury time of Saturday's contest against Newcastle, cutting into the penalty area and driving a low fireball of a strike beyond goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

The goal, which had a hint of offside and put Leicester up 1-0 at the time, had more in common with Van Nistelrooy's record-setter than you may think:

Vardy, 28, will get the chance to stand alone in the record books next week, when the Foxes host, ironically enough, Manchester United. Some stories just write themselves.
