Former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy took to Instagram to wish red-hot Leicester City goal machine Jamie Vardy luck on the eve of the England international's attempt to tie van Nistelrooy's scoring record.

The current assistant manager of the Netherlands national team scored in the final eight matches of the 2002-03 Premier League season before kicking off the 2003-04 campaign with goals against Bolton and Newcastle, setting the English top-flight standard for tallies in consecutive matches at ten.

#Records are there to be broken.. Go on @vardy7, all the best and good luck!

Foxes standout Vardy's penalty finish versus Watford a fortnight ago gave the newly capped striker nine on the trot, one shy of van Nistelrooy's record.

Claudio Ranieri's men travel to Newcastle on Saturday with the 28-year-old attacker looking to equal the Dutchman's record and maintain the East Midlands side's top-three Premier League place.
