David Moyes reportedly received a phone call from an old friend.

According to David Prentice of the Liverpool Echo, Moyes is one of several high-profile managers who have been contacted by Bill Kenwright, Everton's chairman, about the vacant managerial position left by Roberto Martinez, who was sacked by the Toffees nearly two weeks ago.

Other reported candidates include Ronald Koeman, Frank de Boer, Unai Emery, and Manuel Pellegrini.

Moyes spent 11 Premier League seasons at Everton before joining Manchester United in 2013.

Although he signed a six-year contract with the Red Devils, his time at Old Trafford lasted all of 10 months and 34 fixtures. Having failed in the impossible task of succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson, he then tried to rebuild his reputation at Real Sociedad, where he was sacked within nearly one year with a win rate of only 29 percent.

Despite underwhelming spells at United and Sociedad, however, Moyes lasted over a decade at Everton and guided the club to a fourth-place finish in the 2004-05 Premier League season. The Toffees routinely finished in the top half of the table under the Scottish manager, and he became known across Europe for segmenting the pitch as well as reactive tactics.

Regarding Everton's other reported candidates, Koeman recently insisted that he is determined to fulfill his contract at Southampton, while De Boer, who left Ajax at the end of the last Eredivisie season, said he would "love" to join the Toffees.

As for Emery, who led Sevilla to the Europa League title for the third year running, he is reportedly set to hold talks with Everton this week.
