Dann's goal gives Palace first points of season

Bournemouth were so close to securing their first victory of the campaign before settling for a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday after Scott Dann headed home the Eagles' first goal of the season.

Dann's tally deep into extra time ensured the Eagles narrowly avoided a third consecutive 1-0 loss to start the season.

There was a psychological importance attached to this result because of the upcoming international break. The tension in the stadium was palpable when Palace (0-1-2) were disorganized and lacking ideas, and the famously passionate Eagles fans turned boisterous when their team finally committed to the attack in the second half. In the end, it was a deserved draw after Bournemouth dominated the first half and Palace the second.

Bournemouth (0-1-2) proved to be disciplined and true to their tactics again as they ran rampant for much of the first half. Josh King's goal was well taken after Palace dropped their defensive responsibilities following a half-cleared free kick. The Cherries' wing play was direct and effective while the Eagles were scrambling defensively and disconnected up front.

In the second half, everything changed. Defenders played long balls into Christian Benteke, who occupied a more central role for heavier involvement, and Jason Puncheon came alive to spark a committed Eagles attack. After creating many chances, Crystal Palace finally equalized through their captain in injury time to cap an exciting draw on a hot day in south London.
