Hull City stuns reigning champ Leicester 2-1

Defending Premier League champion Leicester City expected to come out of their opener with three points, but fell 2-1 to a Hull side with a chip on their shoulder in a stunning start to the 2016-17 season.

Leicester looked the brighter side in the first half, with Demarai Gray and Jamie Vardy missing opportunities, before Hull took the lead just before the interval with a Adama Dimoande overhead kick following a corner. Leicester came out of the blocks with all guns blazing in the second period, winning a penalty within 15 seconds after Gray was tripped by Tom Huddlestone on the very edge of the box. Riyad Mahrez shrugged off the pressure to power the ball home, and the scores were level.

Hull, however, refused to lie down and took the lead once more when Robert Snodgrass lashed a volley home after a good cross from Ahmed Elmohamady in the 57th minute.

Despite a whole host of substitutions, Claudio Ranieri's men couldn't break down a stubborn Hull defence and become the first defending Premier League champions to lose their first game of the following season.

Hull, which earned a promotion by winning the Championship playoff in May, received a vital three points in what's expected to be a long season. For Leicester, some questions will be asked.
