Burnley's return spoiled by Swansea

The last time Burnley were in the Premier League, they were full of energy, they were plucky, but they were unlucky as well.

To the opening day of their return to the top flight, and the same story re-emerged as despite a good display from the Clarets, they fell to a 1-0 loss to Swansea, who stole three points from Turf Moor on Leroy Fer's goal.

The first half began with a raucous atmosphere inside the old stadium, but the action on the pitch didn't really justify the furore as both sides failed to create clear-cut chances.

The energetic Andre Gray forced Lukasz Fabianski into a decent save from the angle and Jordi Amat saw a header cleared off the line, but that aside, there was nothing much to report from the first half.

The second period livened up, however, with Ben Mee and Federico Fernandez missing from two yards out for their respective teams as it seemed neither was destined for a winner.

Fernando Llorente looked to have missed the golden chance to win it with an off-target header late on, but minutes later the new signing saw his aerial effort saved brilliantly by Tom Heaton, but on hand was Fer to blast home the rebound.

Fabianski saved his team late on with a fantastic save from a wicked deflection and the Swans are flying high on the opening day of the 2016-17 campaign.
