Leicester notches 5th win in English Premier League

LEICESTER, England (AP) Last-place Leicester won an English Premier League game for the first time in 12 weeks when it beat West Ham 2-1 on Saturday.

Only the fifth win of the campaign, Leicester closed to within four points of 17th place, and safety, with eight games to go.

Meanwhile, mid-table West Ham stayed in a slump, with only one win in its last nine matches.

Esteban Cambiasso's first-time well-struck shot from outside the box put Leicester up early. Moments later, it should have been 2-0 but David Nugent's penalty kick was saved by a diving Adrian.

Casual defense in the box allowed Cheikhou Kouyate to equalize after half an hour.

He hit the post after halftime, and the game looked like it would be a stalemate until four minutes from the end of regulation time.

Substitute Andrej Kramaric had a shot cleared off the line, so he passed to Jamie Vardy, whose own shot was diverted in by replacement Alex King.
