Norwich beat Sunderland 2-0 in EPL

NORWICH, England (AP) Norwich was on safer ground in the race to survive in the English Premier League after outclassing Sunderland 2-0 on Saturday.

Norwich moved seven points clear of the relegation zone and gave relief to manager Chris Hughton, while Sunderland remained in danger.

Robert Snodgrass scored the opener in the 20th minute, after Sunderland defender Wes Brown cleared a low cross straight to Johan Elmander, who gave a set-up pass for Snodgrass.

The second wasn't long after, and a season highlight. Sunderland defender John O'Shea headed a cross clear but the dropping ball was volleyed by Alexander Tettey and streaked past goalkeeper Vito Mannone into the far corner.

In injury time, Sunderland's Marcos Alonso departed with a second yellow card.
