Newcastle held 1-1 by Southampton

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) Jay Rodriguez grabbed Southampton's equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in a Premier League match that ended with coaching officials from both benches clashing on the touchline.

Yoan Gouffran gave the home side a 27th-minute lead and Loic Remy passed up two great chances for Newcastle before Rodriguez pounced in the 65th, seconds after Steven Davis hit the post.

The goalkeeping coach from each of the teams was sent off after a touchline scuffle in the final stages, sparked by a foul on the pitch.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew played down the incident, saying ''it was bit of panto season at the end.''

The draw lifted Newcastle provisionally to sixth place.
