CFL Game Summary - Montreal at Ottawa

Ottawa, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Crompton threw for 216 yards and a touchdown to lead the Montreal Alouettes to a 23-17 victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks at TD Place.

Crompton completed 17-of-29 passes with an interception for Montreal (8-8), winners of five in a row and seven of eight. The Alouettes have a half-game lead on first place in the Eastern Division over Hamilton, which plays Toronto on Saturday.

Tyrell Sutton rushed for 77 yards on 17 carries in the win, while S.J. Green caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Henry Burris was 12-of-21 passing for 110 yards, a touchdown and two picks as Ottawa's (2-14) poor season continued. Danny O'Brien also saw action under center, throwing for 111 yards and a touchdown on just 3-of-5 passing, although he also tossed an interception.

The RedBlacks got off to a fast start with a major on the first drive of the game, as Burris hooked up with Marcus Henry for a 5-yard score.

The Alouettes wasted no time knotting the score at 7-7. On the ensuing drive, Tanner Marsh rushed in a 1-yard touchdown.

Action was quiet until the 3:34 mark of the second quarter when Sean Whyte put Montreal ahead with a 41-yard field goal. White added another field goal (14 yards) with just 21 seconds to play before intermission to give the visitors a 13-7 lead.

Montreal extended its advantage early in the third quarter on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Crompton to Green.

Whyte drilled another field goal, a 46-yarder, less than three minutes later to give Montreal 23 unanswered points.

Ottawa put an end to Montreal's run late in the third quarter, getting to within two scores following a 22-yard field goal by Brett Maher.

The RedBlacks continued to chip away early in the fourth quarter when Scott MacDonnell caught a short pass on the flat from O'Brien and turned it into a 58-yard touchdown to make it 23-17.

Ottawa got the ball back with 1:15 to play on its own 23-yard line but turned the ball over on downs.
