Pellegrini unconcerned by rumours of Pep Guardiola taking his job

Amid fresh reports of Pep Guardiola being lined up for the Manchester City manager's role, current boss Manuel Pellegrini shrugged off the link as something he has had to deal with since he was appointed in June 2013.

"It's a rumour we've had the last two-and-a-half seasons," he told BBC Sport when asked about the speculation. "I don't have a problem with that."

It is perhaps unfair the Chilean often has questions surrounding his career when he has collected winners medals in both the Premier League and League Cup during his time in England. This occasion holds extra weight though, with the Bayern Munich manager alleged to be involved in a bumper summer move to Manchester with his former player, Lionel Messi, at Barcelona.

Guardiola was unavailable for Friday's press conference ahead of Saturday's home match against Hertha BSC, and the Bundesliga champion insisted it was for personal reasons.

Club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is adamant the Bavarian outfit wouldn't fall apart if the Spaniard left.

"Things always move on. There is no person in the world who becomes irreplaceable at some stage," Rummenigge said.

"Players come, players go. The same goes for the coach - they come and they go too sooner or later."
