4 things we learned in the Bundesliga this weekend: Aubameyang keeps pace with Lewandowski

With another weekend of Bundesliga action in the books, we take a look back at some of what we learned from the latest slate of matches.

Bayern continues to break records

Victories and records go hand-in-hand these days for Bayern Munich, who notched yet another win to maintain its unbeaten start.

The latest - a 4-0 thrashing of VfB Stuttgart - added to the team's storied history, as it gave the Bavarians the distinction of becoming the first Bundesliga team to win 11 of its opening 12 matches. The only blemish was a 0-0 tie with Frankfurt in October, a result many will consider an anomaly considering the gulf in class between the two. With five games left before the winter break, Bayern's own record for first-half wins (15) could be one of the next to fall.

Saturday's win featured the kind of scoring display fans at the Allianz Arena have come to expect, as Bayern maintained its four-goal average per game.

In his 209th Bundesliga appearance, Thomas Muller etched his name into the record books alongside his team's, becoming the fastest player player to reach 150 wins. With a goal in the game, he also extended Bayern's winning streak for matches in which he scores to 45.

Scoring against Ingolstadt is proving to be futile

Borussia Monchengladbach became the latest to stumble against one of the Bundesliga's top defences.

Other than a moment of madness by Ingolstadt's 'keeper, Ramazan Ozcan, the newly promoted club went virtually untouched through the opening 45 minutes, and looked the better team en route to an impressive point away from home against a Gladbach side few teams would want to face on the road.

It was the latest example of the superb discipline the Ingolstadt backline has shown week after week.

What the team lacks in scoring - ranking last in goals (seven) - it more than makes up for in defence, with a goals-against record topped only by Bayern Munich.

Even more impressive is its away record, with opponents only finding the back of the net three times in seven tries. Gladbach's futility in attack saw the club become the fourth to leave its fans without anything to cheer about, and helped Ingolstadt continue its remarkable run. Not a bad way to begin life in the Bundesliga for the first time.

Andre Schubert comes up short

Borussia Monchengladbach was cruising into the record books until Ingolstadt spoiled the party.

The visitors' seemingly impenetrable defence put an end to Gladbach's season-altering run of six straight wins, and denied Andre Schubert's quest to pass Willi Entenmann (1986 with VfB Stuttgart) for the most consecutive wins to start a coaching career in Germany.

Lucien Favre abandoned ship after opening the season with five defeats, and after taking over, Schubert didn't experience the feeling of dropping points until Saturday.

While his and the team's streak, and turnaround, remain thoroughly impressive, a goalless display at home will make the missed chance at history a little more difficult to swallow.

Aubameyang propels Dortmund's elite attack

Ranking teams in the Bundesliga - by any number of stats - essentially comes down to seeing how far back they are of Bayern Munich and its cast of elite players.

Borussia Dortmund is the closest to reaching Bayern's level, and though the club continues to find itself well back of the Bavarians, the race to become the Bundesliga's top scorer is still alive, with the two famous rivals deploying forwards who are performing head and shoulders above the competition in Germany.

Aubameyang's latest goal - the eventual game-winner against rivals FC Schalke 04 in the Revierderby - along with Robert Lewandowski's tally in Bayern's demolition of Stuttgart, brings the two scoring machines level at 14 goals apiece.

Along with edging closer to his own personal high of 16 league goals from last season, Aubameyang, ironically, has a shot at becoming the first Dortmund player to lead the league in scoring since Lewandowski in 2013-14, his last season with BVB.
