Antonio Rudiger joins Roma on 1-year loan from Stuttgart

Antonio Rudiger has made the switch from the Bundesliga to Serie A, joining AS Roma from Stuttgart on a one-year loan, the club announced Wednesday.

Rudiger, 22, completed his medical on Wednesday and joins the club on a one-year loan for €4 million, with a purchase option to make the transfer permanent to the tune of €9 million.

Rudiger was spotted in Rome ahead of his move wearing team gear and was embraced by fans and reporters in the Italian capital.

"I’m absolutely delighted to be able to wear the Roma jersey," Rudiger told Roma's website. "I’ve come here to win titles, to win the Scudetto. I would like to thank all the Roma fans and promise them that I will give everything for this club."

"Roma are an outstanding team and in Rudi Garcia I have an outstanding coach," Rudiger told German outlet SWR, translated by ESPN. "I have not met a single player who does not have the dream of playing in the Champions League."

Rudiger made 66 league appearances for Stuttgart, scoring two goals. He also featured in eight Europa League games.

He is also a German international and has played for the German national team from U-18 to the senior outfit. He was also eligible to play for his mother's birth country, Sierra Leone, but opted to commit to the German team. Rudiger has also been dealing with recovery after getting surgery for a knee problem and may not be immediately available for Roma.
