Borussia Monchengladbach has reportedly seen its £14.25-million bid for Danish international defender Andreas Christensen rejected by his parent club Chelsea.

Having impressed in 31 Bundesliga appearances with the North Rhine-Westphalians last season, Andre Schubert and co. are looking to make a permanent move for the player, but this attempt has been rebuffed, sources told Sky Sports.

One of dozens of talented Chelsea youngsters on loan, the Fohlenelf is playing the role of babysitter, and thus far, Christensen has been a revelation. After a stuttering start, the six-time capped Dane became one of the club's most consistent players.

Christensen was voted the club's Player of the Season, boasting the Bundesliga's third-best tackling success rate of 66.49 percent behind Mats Hummels and Hertha Berlin's Sebastian Langkamp. With 54 percent of the vote, Christensen bested former Monchengladbach and current Arsenal star Granit Xhaka for the honour. He also scored three goals in his debut season on the continent.

With one year left on his two-season loan, no further talks about the pacey defender's future are reportedly expected until the winter.
