Hoffenheim's Steven Zuber done for the season with fractured skull

Hoffenheim attacker Steven Zuber will not play again this season after suffering a skull fracture in training ahead of Saturday's visit from Ingolstadt.

An unfortunate end of the campaign for the Swiss winger after a collision in training with defender and fellow countryman Fabian Schar sent Zuber to the hospital. The 24-year-old was diagnosed with a fractured skull and separated shoulder.

Schar was also taken to the hospital but was released after a series of tests.

"We all wish Steven all the best with his recovery and hope that he can return as soon as possible. The team will be playing for him in the remaining three games this season," Hoffenheim boss Julian Nagelsmann said Friday.

With three matches left in the Bundesliga season, Nagelsmann's lot sit perilously close to the drop. In 14th with 34 points, three clear of 16th-place Werder Bremen and a relegation playoff spot, Hoffenheim has its destiny in its own hands. The visit from Ingolstadt is followed by a trip to bottom-dwellers Hannover, and a home tilt with Schalke.
