Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is speaking out publicly about his history with depression and witnessing his mother's suicide attempt.

The WWE-star-turned-actor was just 15 years old when he watched his mother, Ata, get out of their car and walk into oncoming traffic on Interstate 65 in Nashville after they were evicted from their apartment.

"Struggle and pain is real. I was devastated and depressed," Johnson told Mike Parker of Express. "I reached a point where I didn't want to do a thing or go anywhere. I was crying constantly."

Johnson previously opened up about his mother's suicide attempt on Instagram while filming for HBO's "Ballers" in February, writing: "We got lucky that day when I was 15 and that ain't always the case."

Years later, Johnson went through another dark period after he was released by the CFL's Calgary Stampeders within a year of signing with the team and dumped by his girlfriend.

"That was my absolute worst time," Johnson said.

Johnson said he and his mother are both in better places mentally now and try to use their own experiences to help others.

"We both healed but we've always got to do our best to pay attention when other people are in pain," he said. "We have to help them through it and remind them they are not alone."
