Germany vs. Brazil semi-final was the most watched television program in German history

An average of 32.57 million people were watching on German television as Die Mannschaft brutalized the Brazilians 7-1 in Tuesday's World Cup semi-final.
The broadcast surpassed the 31.1 million viewers who tuned in to see Germany lose 0-1 to Spain at the 2010 World Cup, becoming the most watched program in German television history. The 87.8% market share was just below the 87.9% earned by the 1990 World Cup final between Germany and Argentina, but 4-million more people tuned in to yesterday's thrashing.
Perhaps the most remarkable part of the record setting broadcast is that the match aired between 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. local time, not a typical television friendly hour.
