For the first time in the history of the World Cup, a team will advance from the Group Stage despite a negative two goal differential. Greece's entry into the Round of 16 wasn't without controversy, though.
Tied 1-1 with Ivory Coast in stoppage time, Greece was on the brink of elimination. That's when Georgios Samaras appeared to stub his toe in the box after his leg made contact with Ivory Coast defender Giovanni-Guy Yann Sio.
Without hesitation, Ecuadorian referee Carlos Vera pointed to the spot.
From there, Samaras stepped up, converted the penalty, and sent Greece through to the next round of the tournament where they'll play Costa Rica.
