Croatia, after having to go through 120 minutes and a penalty shootout in each of its previous two games, found a second wind in Wednesday's World Cup semi-final.
Ivan Perisic's 68th-minute header cancelled out Kieran Trippier's first-half free-kick, eventually sending England into extra time.
The Three Lions were condemned to another 30 minutes in the round of 16 against Colombia, but overcame their shootout curse when Eric Dier struck the decisive penalty.
