Report: England's provisional XI to face Tunisia includes Maguire, Young

Gareth Southgate is setting up England in a 3-3-2-2 shape during preparations for his side's opener against Tunisia on Monday, and the current XI doesn't include Danny Rose, Gary Cahill, Eric Dier, or injury concern Marcus Rashford, according to the Guardian's Daniel Taylor.

The formation - more succinctly described as a 3-5-2 - would see the holding midfield duties left solely to Jordan Henderson, while Jesse Lingard and Dele Alli are given license to shuttle through the middle. Raheem Sterling will be slotted centrally to mill around captain Harry Kane.

Five-time international Harry Maguire is apparently preferred to Cahill. The 25-year-old Leicester City man would be dropped into an all-Yorkshire back-three with John Stones and Kyle Walker. Kieran Trippier is expected to beat Trent Alexander-Arnold to the wing-back berth on the right, while Ashley Young palms off Rose on the opposite side.

Only Henderson and Sterling have previously been involved in a World Cup match. The former's inclusion sees Dier sit out, although both have been fielded at the same time in the past. Rashford impressed with a lush effort in England's final warm-up friendly with Costa Rica, but is expected to be named on the bench after dealing with a knee issue in recent days.

England has training sessions in Repino on Friday and Saturday before flying to Volgograd to acclimatise to Russia's hotter temperatures. Monday's meeting with Tunisia is staged at the home of second-tier FC Rotor Volgograd, which seats 45,000.
